Calling Good Evil & Evil Good

We are living at a time when there seems to be no clear definition of what is good and what is evil, everything is relative. However, I believe that everything that is not good is evil. There are only two sides to all issues. Every decision in life is either of the broad road or the narrow road. We either want to be a sheep or a goat. We are either of light or of darkness. See the point? Then, please explain to me how it is so easy to be mistaken about the issues we are daily called to deal with? The Bible gives us the answer, telling us that the heart of man is desperately wicked, (Jeremiah 17:9) we sometimes don’t understand how much so. This heart is prone to infatuation and self-deception and can call good, evil and evil, good.

One of the basic principles established at creation and maintained after sin, is that work is a blessing, a good given for man’s benefit. In the beginning God appointed to man, work, specifically work attached to nature. Yet this generation has learnt to look down on work attached to the soil. Artificial work is magnified and paid all the big money while laborers are paid little, even though their work may be essential to life. However, we should remember that even the king is served by the field (Eccl. 5:9) Look at the structure of the world, the knowledge of good and evil, now called scholastics, is highly rated and praised. Once you have passed through the fire, you are hailed as gods. The endorsement, praise and accolades of the world is heaped upon the graduate, who then make it their studied purpose to gain as much money for as little physical effort as possible. The blessing that could be gained is thus missed. “Many look upon work as a curse, originating with the enemy of souls. This is a mistaken idea. God gave labor to man as a blessing, to occupy his mind, to strengthen his body, and to develop his faculties. Adam labored in the garden of Eden, and he found in mental and physical activity the highest pleasures of his holy existence. When he was driven from that beautiful home as the result of his disobedience, and was forced to struggle with a stubborn soil to gain his daily bread, that very labor was a relief to his sorrowing soul, a safeguard against temptation. Judicious labor is indispensable both to the happiness and the prosperity of our race. It makes the feeble strong, the timid brave, the poor rich, and the wretched happy... – TDG 133

The devil is still playing the same game he played at the beginning. God has offered us true education, a balance education of mind and body, that would make us wise but we are often tempted to wander away. As we all stand at the tree of knowledge of good and evil, the devil bids us partake, informing us of all the potential rewards that await us. Many partake and much to their disappointment, they reap much bitterness. “The human ambition has been seeking for that kind of knowledge that will bring to them glory and self-exaltation and supremacy. Thus Adam and Eve were worked upon by Satan until Calling good, evil and evil, good God’s restraint was snapped asunder, and their education under the teacher of lies began in order that they might have the knowledge which God had refused them,—to know the consequence of transgression” (Manuscript 67, 1898). – {1BC 1083.7}

The education under the teacher of lies has also perpetuated the idea that man can create a better form of anything God has naturally offered. For every natural gift that the Creator has given, Satan has sought to replace with artificial inducements. The exchange of a country house for an apartment in the city, a river, lake or sea for a swimming pool, a flourishing garden for a supermarket, a natural yard and forest for a park, a God-lead life for a government-governed life, and so on. We have been told that the chaff is better than the wheat, the evil sweeter than the good and unfortunately we have a generation that
seem to have accepted that lie. Instead of feasting on the honeycomb of God’s Word, this is a generation that has multiplied books of a different order unto themselves. They revel in attaining knowledge without understanding or wisdom and so become foolish instead of wise.

The problem however is a little more systemic than that, for many after having tasted the fruit of knowledge of good and evil, loose the ability to discern between good and evil, thinking that they still have discernment. The mind of man becomes an instrument that he deems trustworthy. He somehow does not necessarily believe that his heart is desperately wicked. He thinks that he can calculate and reason himself into and out of any circumstance. Once he is able to justify anything done to soothe his seared conscience, he is consoled. Thus evil can be made to sound good and good is sometimes made to appear as evil. Remember the temptations of Jesus when Satan appeared as an angel of light and showed Him all the kingdoms of this world? Satan is the mastermind behind all such education. Those who are inclined to adopt his standard are given all the help he can give. The result- pride, fullness of bread and idleness - a recipe that goes contrary to the life in the country. But we were warned by the Scriptures in Isaiah 5:20. - “Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!” Remember: “The greatest curse following in the train of wealth is the fashionable idea that work is degrading. “Behold, this was the iniquity of thy sister Sodom, pride, fulness of bread, and abundance of idleness was in her and in her daughters, neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy” (Ezekiel 16:49). Here are presented before us, in the words of Holy Writ, the terrible results of idleness. It was this that caused the ruin of the cities of the plain. Idleness enfeebles the mind, debases the soul, and perverts the understanding, turning into a curse that which was given as a blessing.”—The Signs of the Times, May 4, 1882. – {TDG 133.5}

Watch Part 2: Preparation For Exclusion

We are often not able to trace where this type of miseducation will lead. The Jews gave us a clue as they were avid Roman students, who hailed Caesar as their king. They were also able to conclude and agree upon the policy that it was better for one man to die than a whole nation perish. (John 11:50) Today we are living at a time when such policy is being uttered again, as the so-called good of society is being held above the individual right. As man ventures to legislate away one’s personal right to choose what goes into our bodies via medical treatments. In the name of keeping all healthy and safe, the individual must give up his God-given right and his commitment to his God. The precedent set is a dangerous one, if one understands that the same policy is prophesied to take place at the end, when the life of a little company would be sought after. Students of prophecy will be aware that at that time, the whole world will be at the papacy’s step, (Daniel 11:43) the ten kings will hand over their power to the beast for a short space, (Revelation 17:12,13) the minds of men would have unitedly been affected by sorcery, (Revelation 18:23) as they wonder after the beast, but for a few...in the name of unity and the good of man, the little company would be pressured to accept the dictates of governments in regard to their choice of worship. The majority would be seen as right even though they are on Satan’s side. Thus, these current episodes in our experience are but practice runs for that time, small steps that can either lead to final obedience of Christ or Satan. May we be found faithful in the little decisions, in preparation for the greater ones. Deuteronomy 30:15,19 See, I have set before thee this day life and good, and death and evil; ..I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live:”
