The Counsel of the Ungodly
“Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly...” Psalm 1:1. In whose counsel do we find ourselves walking? As the world is fearfully dealing with the corona virus, are we seeking counsel of the God of heaven or are ungodly, the god of Ekron? (2 Kings 1:2-4). It is essential that we understand that: “There are many ways of practicing the healing art; but there is only one way that Heaven approves.” (White, E.G. Counsels on Diet and Foods p. 302.) Are we using the method that heaven approves? Are we using the method that heaven approves of to deal with the current health crisis? The Great Physician is always near to help us on a daily basis and He will not fail in a crisis.
Remember, the way of the world that leads to destruction and the way of the Lord are in opposite directions. “These roads are distinct, separate, in opposite directions. One leads to eternal life, the other to eternal death.” (White, E.G. Testimonies to the Church. Vol.1 p. 127.) Is it then possible to walk on both roads at the same time? No. Then how do we explain those who prayerfully take the drugs, called medicine, of the world? Do you want God to bless the health destroying drugs of the world? Do you pray, hoping that you would not have to change your sinful habits to regain health? The short-cuts offered by this world to try and deal with a sick body will never give the long-term benefits that one can surely find by following in the counsel of God.
Habits are difficult to break, especially those that seem to make our lives follow the traditional path. Let’s look at how we were educated to think traditionally. When we need to know what to think, we consult the knowledgeable ones, the educated ones, the PhD’s who are authorities on the subject. When we need to know something spiritual, we consult the pastor or priest, the authority on God’s Word. When we need to know something about our body, we consult the medical doctors, the authorities on our bodies. See the trend? We have been taught to place our faith in men. Fallible men just like ourselves. Yes, it is good to ask counsel and advice, for we know very little ourselves - but how often do we consider that that person should not be of the ungodly class? At what point in the search for answers do we place God? When all else fails?
The ungodly are found even in religious congregations. A form of godliness is the best cloak for the ungodly. Thus, it is imperative that we subject everyone and everything to the counsels left us in the Bible and Spirit of Prophecy. When planning to engage in country living this advice becomes really important. For the country living experience should lead one to greater dependence on God. The temptation to put all things in place, to depend upon self for survival and security, is a great one. The only way to resist, is to make the Lord and godly people your counsellors at every step. Prayerfully make decisions and be thankful as He opens the way. When we walk in the way of the Lord, His blessings are evident.
Be not surprise if your country living moves go against even your natural inclinations. The carnal will war with the spiritual. Many in an attempt to please both, set up a city life in the country. Since this world is not our home, for we are pilgrims here - we should not seek to hold on to the things of this world too tightly. Be willing to let go all to follow the counsel of the Lord. The Lord knows no haste nor delay, so in following Him, everything will work out in the correct timing - which may not be your timing. We are not to try and force the hand of the Lord by going ahead of Him and not waiting patiently on the Lord. When urgent moves are needed, He lets you know and opens the way for you to accomplish the task quickly. However, when we are asked to wait, it is difficult to meekly wait and murmur not. At these critical moments, the adversary of souls sends his ungodly counselors to suggest some worldly scheme to secure your desired outcome. However, we all are aware that, except the Lord builds a house, they labor in vain that build it. May the counsel of God find its rightful place in your experience.
